This series is a long standing tradition for the Wheelmen. The series consists of 21 races (Criteriums, Road Races, and Time Trials) between the end of April and the beginning of September. There are 3 race groups to accommodate different levels of fitness, skills, and experience. These races, although competitive, are great environment for training and learning to race.
*NEW for 2016*: The Wheelmen are encouraging new racers and spectators to come to our Tuesday night criteriums! The courses (either Owens DP or Owens CEP) are completely closed to traffic and will be open to ride before racing begins, so give it a try. With over 35 - 1km laps, these races are very spectator friendly. Also, we will have a FOOD TRUCK on site! Follow Wheelmen Racing on Facebook for full event details.
Race Groups: The A race is the most competitive, with most participants being USAC Category 1-3 racers. The B Race is next with Category 4 or 5 racers and masters. Finally, the C race is for entry level racers. The important thing is that participants race to their current level of fitness and experience, for more info: ABC Group Racing Rules
Paperwork: For registration, you need 4 things to race: 1) USAC Cycling license, 2) Maumee Valley Wheelmen membership, 3) MVW Club Racing release, and 4) Race fee. Both licenses have a “1-day” option if you’d like to try it out. In fact, we will waive the club membership requirement for your first race. The cost for each race is $8 and that includes USAC insurance. More info: Race Registration
How the race series works: At the end of the season, there is a champion for each racing group, with the A group winner being the “Club Champion.” There is also a Time Trial Champion, Sprint Champion, and Women’s club champion. Points are determined by each rider’s best 12 races of the 21 throughout the year. More on scoring.
Where we race: There are a variety of venues throughout NW Ohio. Each has a profile on our website. Most are open to traffic with the exception of Toledo Speedway and the Owens Criterium courses. Volunteers work as course marshals fore safety and all races are permitted and insured through USA Cycling. 2016 Race Schedule
